Team Trust and Reconciliation Programme

Employers in Kenya face an unanticipated dilemma whose impacts have the potential to destroy business operations all over the country. The country has erupted into a violent conflict between - primarily - three of the major tribal groupings, each of whom has embarked upon a policy of expelling the others from its notional territory. Vast numbers of people have been terrorised by such actions and there is no probability of any immediate reversal back to normality.

Employers face three significant challenges. The first is that they may be to all intents and purposes unable to deploy people of one tribe in locations outside their own 'homeland'. The second is that even in less affected areas, including Nairobi city, employees may find it intimidating to work together and the working environment may become strained. Finally, individual employees and their managers will be suffering from various forms of post traumatic stress disorders which may affect their ability to concentrate and perform effectively.

Symptoms of these problems may even include a denial that they exist or require attention.

In conjunction with USAID, TACKAfrica has developed a programme of workforce counselling and team-trust workshops to help address these issues and bring morale and productivity back to normal.
